Any speculation what the new specials could be? Any holidays? Or something lame like Arthur's Missing Pal?

Hopefully they will go back to digital ink and paint traditional animation instead of Flash animation.

Here's the official Oasis site, along with some samples of their animation as a possible preview of what's to come: http://oasisanimation.com/

I was excited until I read that it's the same studio that animated Seasons 14 and 15 which didn't look much better than the Flash episodes, IMO.

Actually I didn't mind the animation of Season 14 and 15. Even though it did seem to be of lesser quality, it kind of reminded me of the style of the first season or two, with unique facial expressions and poses of the characters. I say that's better than Flash any day.

Regardless, we aren't really told if the Flash animation will continue. Can anyone think of another series that has actually reverted back to digital ink/paint from Flash?

Gee. And just when 9 Story was finally starting to improve with their overall animation; sure, there was still a robotic stiffness with some of the movements, and the character designs had a cold/lifeless look to them (except Beulah McInerney, whose design improved for some reason), but the overall animation had finally started becoming just a tad more fluid and natural in recent seasons. I guess people complained about the Flash animation so much they decided to revert back.

But . . . weren't Seasons 9-15 notorious for having a lot of off-model animation? We'll have to wait and see.

Here are my thoughts. "14 new 30-minute episodes." Are they changing how long a season is? It is normally ten episodes per season. "plus two one-hour Specials." Good that is getting more attention now. The last hour long special was great.
I know some are wondering whether this will really be an improvement to Seasons 16-19 in animation. Well they are showing clips from season 11, which is well better than the animation in season 19. If it is like the animation in season 15 I still consider that a modest improvement. I know Curious George had a period of bad animation (the colors were way too bright), but it then got the animation back to its old ways.

I'd say it's fairly typical that seasons get shorter and shorter as time goes on, especially so for children's programming. Quite frankly, I'm surprised we've had 10 episodes since season 4. Seven episodes for the next couple seasons seems reasonable to me.

Cyberchase seems to have had it the worst. It would constantly get renewed for 1-4 episode seasons.

AKOM was the original overseas studio for Arthur Seasons 1-11. Arthur was probably the best quality in terms of animation compared to the other shows they animated. Their quality control in their other shows was hit or miss. The producers of Batman: TAS fired them because they did a poor job animating one episode. And The Simpson's Original Woodprint of "Some Enchanted Evening" was their worst work. The show could have not existed if they didn't redo the animation.

Animation Services (HK Ltd.), the overseas studio for Seasons 12-15 were like "Some Enchanted Evening" in quality. I remember the characters were off model and crudely drawn in several scenes. Binky looked skinny in some scenes! Francine looked more like Oliver Frensky at times too!

y'know its weird, did Story9 animate or did they also write? the episodes seemed to be written way differently when story9 got the show, really bad at first but slowly improving. were they only responsible for the animating or were they hired to basically run the whole thing? the writing has recently started to look up. hopefully new animators means the writing will stay the same or get better, bringing in new writers could go pretty badly (esp. considering the Arthur/Ladonna shiptease episode was written by a guest writer.)

Re: Seasons 20 & 21

The writing is done through WGBH, they've simply had newer writers as of late, which makes sense when you consider how many years the show's been on. I think so far, Peter Hirsch and Dietrich Smith are the only writers who have been with the show from the beginning (or, the very least, very early in the show's run); Ken Scarborough returned as of Season 18, and I think he disappeared from the show around the same time Crazy Joe did. Other than that, most of the writers are relatively new, but WGBH is in charge of the writing process and hires the writers for the show.

One thing I learned from Greg is that part of the writing process includes the scripts going through a number of revisions, and even have to be approved by different people (including himself) before it's turned into an episode - the newer the writer, the more revisions and rewrites the scripts are likely to go through.

As for 14 episodes, that has me confused too. Why 14? Is that a misprint/typo? Has the number of episodes per season been reduced? Or is it even possible that 9 Story may have already completed at least six episodes before the production of the show switched to Oasis?

I am pretty sure Kathy Waugh has ben around since season 1. A few others like Cusi Cram were at least around since at least season 2.

You're right, Kathy Waugh also returned recently after also disappearing around the same time as Joe and Ken; Cusi Cram, on the other hand, wrote from Seasons 6-15.
