Arthur and you!

Post by Coyote_Mao on Mon Dec 19, 2016 9:51 am

In contrast to how the title of this discussion may sound, this topic is not a place to share fanfics about how you met the titular protagonist of the cartoon we all know and love, but rather to discuss how members came to watch the TV series and what role it played in their lives. I have a sneaking suspicion that a similar thread might already exist on this forum, but I couldn't find it, so... A thousand apologies/please don't ban meh? Very Happy
As for myself, I never really watched Arthur when I was a little tyke, however I did play a couple of games from the "Living Books" series that feathured the aforementioned four-eyed aardvark. Never even knew he appeared in any other media until I discovered the Internet sometime in very early 2000s and since then the show became somewhat of a guilty pleasure for me... Growing up in the 90s in a country that has been slowly and painfully recovering from the collapse of USSR yours truly have developed a bit of a psychological trauma and to be honest I find simple and heartfelt things like Arthur the TV series to be... "Soothing", I guess? Surprised

Well, I moved to the US [a day before Katrina hit] and lived there until July 2008 - and that's how I got to know Arthur. Several book pages become a long-time memory, such as the final page of "Arthur's Underwear," the first page of "Arthur's Eyes" and a few pages from "Arthur Meets the President"
And I saw a few kids playing Arthur PC games at the library, but I didn't really notice.

Then, in July 2016, the unexpected happened. I was on a road trip from Boston to Los Angeles to celebrate my graduation, and somehow a red-haired rabbit must have made me lost my foothold as I glanced into the Arthur hole...if you know what I'm saying.

Follow the red-haired rabbit...

A red-haired rabbit, hmmm? I think I know what you mean. Unless it was some kind of inappropriate innuendo. But it wasn't, right? Ri-i-ight..? Suspect

Yes.

But it was Molly, not Ladonna. Besides, Ladonna's a hare and not a rabbit.

Right, right. That's an idea I'm still getting used to. It even says "rabbit" on her page on the Arthur wiki. Surprised

By turning the TV on to PBS kids constantly, and always paying attention when Arthur was on. It had the best consistency.

I wish I had the leisure of just turning on a TV and watching this show when I was younger. Since there's no legal way to obtain Arthur episodes here I had to resort to outright piracy back in the day... Oh yes, sometime in 2008 I even had a channel on YouTube where I would upload the episodes I could get my hands on. I'm not particulary proud of it, but hey - it's ancient history already.

I remember the first ads for the show back in 96, 97, those were the good old day, coming home from school watching the show "Wishbone" The Magic School Bus, Nickelodeon, The Little Lulu Show on HBO. What a Face
