Are They Still In The Same Grades?

Post by In_Correct on Wed Jan 04, 2017 9:12 pm

Season 20:
In the Oasis season, I am pretty sure that I saw D.W. and etc. at the same preschool with Ms. Morgan. Wouldn't they be in Kindergarten? In "The Last Day" everybody finally advanced to the next grade.

I honestly cannot believe that people actually thought they'd be moving to Grade 4 in Season 20.

Seriously, why would people think that? ARTHUR is one of those shows where the characters don't age or move forward, even if there are episodes that would indicate they would. Arthur and the gang were moving onto Grade 4 in "The Short, Quick Summer," then were back in Grade 3 in all ensuing episodes. D.W. was turning five and moving onto kindergarten in "D.W.'s Perfect Wish," but was back to being four and in pre-school in all ensuing episodes. Mr. Morris was retiring and moving to New Mexico in "April 9th" but continued to pop up at Lakewood for years afterward (though one recent episode had him back in New Mexico).

This show runs on Status Quo, and once Status Quo has been established, it's pretty much cemented into place. After all these years of the show remaining within the confines of its own Status Quo, people actually thought Arthur and the gang would actually move onto Grade 4 because of "The Last Day"? The same episode also indicated D.W. and Bud would be moving to kindergarten, but guess what? Sometimes in the next year or two, we're supposed to get a TV movie about D.W. turning five (again) and moving onto kindergarten (again).

Status Quo, people.

I remember an old commercial called them 4th graders. Maybe it was foreshadowing season 21.

Or maybe it was hinting at who the real heroes of the series were. Molly

I wasn't sure because of the different animation studio seemed to make changes to she show such as adding Ladonna and Bud. It happened the same time and it gives the impression that the show was going through different changes. Perhaps they were running out of ideas and decided to Add new characters and then advance everybody to the next grade. No need to have a long rant about Status Quo.

Well, with this kind of logic PBS could just as easily make an entire season with the same characters as 4th graders and then revert them back to 3rd grade at any time and act like nothing ever happened. Basically anything goes, status quo or not. Surprised

Changing the timelines, switching character traits on and off... If the people from PBS can get away with this, so can we! Which basically means that any kind of fanfiction and fan art ideas people came up with can be treated as canon to some degree. Surprised
