Screens from a possible Season 21 episode.

Post by Roabe on Mon Jan 23, 2017 5:39 pm

Recently uploaded to Marc Brown Studios' Facebook page. Plainly obvious it's going to be about the library closing and Sue Ellen forms a protest to save it (and it will feature Marc Brown!).

On one hand such an episode would be fairly topical, with many cities in the US and other countries having to cut back on the budget for public services like libraries etc., but on the other hand Elwood City never struck me as the kind of place that would be struggling for money (other than Brain's passive comment about Elwood City's economy being sluggish back in "Castles in the Sky"). Or the library is closing because it can't compete with the Internet as a reliable information source. If that's the case, then get ready for a heavy-handed message that will appeal to the troglodytes.

So in other words, it's "Sue Ellen Chickens Out," but instead of the Sugar Bowl, it's the library.

Buster looks so weird in that still, I guess as the result of the Flash assets. The "open mouths" always looked so off to me, especially on Arthur, but I'm noticing now that Buster's Flash mouth seems to be much lower than the old seasons, where his eyes and mouth were much closer to the center of his head compared to Arthur and others.

It would be funny if they snuck in a callback to "Chickens Out" where Buster initially misspells "save" as "safe".

So Marc Brown himself is going to play a major role in the next episode? Honestly I'm unsure how to feel about that... Never liked the whole "guest star cameo appearences" thing, but he at least he has a strong connection to the series. Very Happy

It feels like a typical developer plot to me that I've seen or heard about in movies!

You know what would be cool? If alongside Marc Brown, Arthur and the gang would run into Stan Lee in the upcoming episodes... And Deadpool. They could be just casually hanging out at the comic book store. Very Happy

Buster may look weird, but Sue Ellen looks kinda cute before the microphone.

I love the guest star roles normally, but I do not think this sounds good. I find the Sue Ellen episodes have been consistently bad since season 9 ("Strangers on a Train" is an exception). Hopefully this episode is a "Rom to Ride" success.

The problem with Sue Ellen episodes is they've become mostly vehicles for some kind of a sermon. . . .

- "Sue Ellen Chickens Out": Saving the Sugar Bowl from corporate development
- "Sue Ellen Vegges Out": Pushing the vegetarian agenda
- "So Funny, I Forgot to Laugh": Poorly-written and executed anti-bullying episode

Like I said, so far, this episode is seeming like a rehash of "Sue Ellen Chickens Out," but with the library instead of the Sugar Bowl.

I also think Jessie Kardos is no where near as good as Patricia Rodriguez. I just checked the episode list and since season 10 (she had no lines in season 9) I counted I have only liked her in "Strangers on a Train" and "Wish you were Here."
Before I turned 12 I considered her one of the better characters, but now I now I am surprised to see her make an episode better. Again, I hope this episode is an exception.

Oh, dit-to. There's something about Jessie Kardos's Sue Ellen that just sounds completely off somewhere - kind of irritatingly nasally and almost kind of whiney.

That being said though, nowhere near as bad as the times Arthur sounded like D.W. and D.W. sounded almost like a chipmunk.

When I marathoned the show I kept thinking her voice had practically no emotion in it, while everyone else seemed to have the energy of an eight year old.

I find it funny how Sue Ellen gets the preachy episodes about progressive issues, when all the way back in "Arthur Cleans Up" she bullies and physically threatens Arthur after her mom signed her up for a cleaning crew that was his idea, and might have to miss a martial arts class because of it. Way to stand up for the environment, Sue Ellen.
