Beastly Birthday Commercial

Post by TheMilanTooner on Sat Apr 29, 2017 1:37 pm

So PBS rolled out a commercial for the first of the one-hour movie specials this year (D.W. and the Beastly Birthday). Airdate is confirmed to be Monday, May 29th and will follow with the usual promotion of four new half-hours.

What's your thoughts?

so for a second i was stupid and thought that this commercial said all new episodes THIS week so i spit out my drink and ran to check the pbs schedule and was very disappointed : '(
but...in five weeks i will be VERY happy! judging by the commercial the animation looks slightly better but for the love of arthur jesus can they PLEASE get rid of those shitty 9 story models??? that would be a huge improvement thanks oasis

thanks!

I didn't see much of the flash episodes (saw the Fountain Abbey DVD to familiarise myself, along with some of the S20 premieres), and...yeah, this looks kinda bad for Flash. Better art direction, but good lord, the cut-out style....

The plot's a bit odd as well. I kinda expected something other than a Where the Wild Things Are copy-and-paste after reading the synopsis PBS revealed back in that infokit. Not to mention the flip-flop between calling it an "episode/movie/special". Make up what you wanna advertise it as, damnit!

I might give this a chance (as I have Detroit PBS Kids) on the Family Night block or something; interested in seeing what the current crew has planned for hour-long specials.

if done right, flash can be great! but 9 story didn't know how to animate for shit, and created god-awful character models that oasis just recycles in their episodes. the major difference is the fluidity of the animation, at least that's an improvement. but i get the feeling oasis is trying to do everything they possibly can to avoid making new character models...so they try to spruce up the shitty ones, and they think we won't notice...well we DO...even a five year old would notice the change in arthur's animation..

yeah i know right??? i mean on one hand wow nostalgia...where the wild things are was one of my favorite books as a kid...but then it also seems like a huge ripoff...i forget what the plot of this special is going to be besides the fact that it's D.W.'s fifth birthday again but wow bud emily and the tibbles as monsters...what a trip, i mean is it all a big dream that d.w. has??? what about arthur, i thought it said in the synopsis that he was going into the future?? why didn't the commercial mention that? what was with the 3 second clip of arthur and buster in an anti-gravity chamber?? was that from the same episode?? i was left feeling so confused. i want answers.

Yeah, I sort of wish someone like Mercury Filmworks nabbed the production rights; they're PROS at Flash and Toon Boom.

Yeah, it's really awkward how this special seems to be just one massive "dream sequence" episode (which are the ones I usually forgot as a kid; I'd typically rent the hell out of the "Tasty Treats" VHS from my library when VHS tapes were around there). I suppose the lack of mention of the Arthur b-plot was for the sake of time; the commercial didn't do a good job really establishing the plot of the whole thing other than "DW is on some birthday adventure dream with some Where the Wild Things Are homage and there's also a Buster and Arthur plot"!

what??? that's so unfair!!!! they made wander over yonder?? oh my god they are so good!! why??? why couldn't they animate Arthur?? i feel cheated.

i'm much more interested in the b-plot anyway and seeing arthur travel into the future lmao

I've been worried that this would be a dream-sequence special ever since the synopsis was released. I will say that PBS often uses strange dream-sequences and other random imagination scenes in Arthur promos, yet those scenes are hardly crucial to any episodes' plot. Not sure if that's the case for this time though...

So it looks like we have Bud, Emily, and the Tibble Twins at the party. I'm happy to see the Tibbles here. They've almost been replaced by Bud once he came to town. Where's James? Maybe he's organizing his stamp collection again;)

I am also intrigued by the Arthur sub-plot. Maybe we'll see a return of the science exhibit "The World of Tomorrow"?

Couldn't have put it better myself. It feels like either half of the special is going to revolve around the whole "Wild Things" homage; feels a bit like "Atlantis Squarepantis" or "Where's Perry?" in a sense that it's a special/episode VERY much made to be appealing to advertisers/marketers. Hopefully, that "Haunted Treehouse" movie/special will bring back the more chill tone of Perfect Christmas.

Considering how Season 20 (the season these specials and S21 are produced alongside) is a giant anniversary season with references and flashbacks to earlier episodes, that could very well be a possibility!

I guess I'll just have to wait for whenever these new episodes and Beastly Birthday show up in rotation on PBS Kids, since ARTHUR's been relegated to the 6:30am death slot on PBS.

listen...the products of monkey and rabbit relations just...don't....work...
now don't get me wrong...i'm not hating on mixed species relationships (some of my favorite pairings are mixed species)...i just think...some of them...shouldn't...breed  silent adoption is okay too if you want kids, folks...
emily's parents...a pair of ordinary anthropomorphic folk....

emily...an abomination with a huge chin and masculine features that do not work to her favor in any way whatsoever

Her mother also appears to have a cat's nose... Looks like interspecies relationships are a norm in their household. Smile
