Lebron James next guest star?

Post by PrettyCoolStairs on Mon Nov 27, 2017 6:33 pm

I don't follow sports much, but apparently LeBron James tweeted an Arthur meme (the fist one). This has evidently caused producer Carol Greenwald to contact his agent for a possible upcoming guest appearance. I suppose this could support the claim that Season 22 is indeed a thing...?

Here is one article about the news. http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/11/cleveland-cavaliers-lebron-james-arthur-meme-wgbh-producer-guest-star-interview

I'm still holding out for a Chuck Norris guest appearance as Chuck Morris.

Seeing a world-class basketball player associating with the flagship fruit of the Slums is enough to enlighten anyone's day.

this could prove to be REALLY good for arthur...i read that ratings could potentially spike due to lebron james' tweet. everyone is raving about it on social media. many outfits are selling merch like t-shirts, sneakers, caps, etc. because of all the attention it's getting...this is GREAT news!!

LeBron James is easily this generation's Michael Jordan, so for him to guest on ARTHUR could possibly be a big deal, but my concern would be what kind of episode would he be in, and the only thing that comes to my mind is yet another episode where Francine has problems with sportsmanship, and that LeBron's appearance would be reduced to a teaching tool moment to remind Franky it's not whether you win or lose but that you have fun with your friends, and how many times have we seen this scenario?

Yes, shes only be taught that lesson the past 21 yrs but hey let's keep reusing it. It would appear that's what they will do which would be crappy since  Brain is actually very good at basketball and he could be part of it? Perhaps the Tough Customers will meet him? That'd be cool

I forgot about Lydia Fox . . . maybe LeBron could be her idol and she's wanting to meet him when she hears he'll be playing in town.

I kind of liked Lydia Fox as a supplemental character. Even though she seems to be a cliche "wheelchair", politically-correct, background kid, I enjoyed her debut episode and how she interacted with the Brain, since she herself is also rather brainy. She and LeBron would be interesting in my view.

I have not heard much else about this upcoming episode, but there is another potential confirmation of a new season - the 22nd season. Jessica Kardos (voice of Sue Ellen) tweeted that her agent contacted her for availability. See:

You know, I was wondering if there was going to be a new season or not.

Arthur receiving more new seasons is virtually inevitable by this point. I sense the day of its cancellation will somehow involve a deep, ominous plainchant playing as a plague of apricots rain from the sky (Apricot Jack was obviously attempting to convey something to us) and every duck on the planet quacking a distorted G-major rendition of 'Crazy Bus' for 10 hours a la the Love Ducks.

Spoiler:
Lydia is an interesting character for sure, mainly because at times she treads the line of ripping off Marina but never quite heads past it, which is enough of a saving grace to keep her unique. While I barely remember anything about her debut episode (mainly in that it lacked much plot), I greatly enjoyed her role in The Princess Problem in that she presented a juxtaposition with stereotypical princess culture in such a distinctively different way from most other media that tackles the issue (that's one way to harness a disability effectively in media) and was written far more distinctly as a character to boot.

^ S21 spoilers much ^

But yeah, I tend to agree with your first point. The only thing that might prevent an "Arthur is cancelled?!" uproar is the fact that we probably won't ever get an official cancellation statement from WGBH or 9 Story. PBS shows tend to just not get renewed or go back into production. So it's a very subtle cancellation in a sense.

Thanks for the note. Lydia point is now under a spoiler tag.

It's likely that this is the ultimate fate f Arthur, which is a depressing prospect for a number of reasons - chiefly in that the show has enjoyed a legacy of over two decades on the air. It deserves a little something extra for its final season:
- Include an episode guest starring Marc Brown.
- Give Cousin Mo a second starring role.
- Give several seldom-heard background characters (Alex, Mary, Jessica, Philomena) major speaking roles.
- Bring back Joe Fallon (surely it can't be as difficult as it seems, considering he is writing for numerous other PBS Kids shows currently).
- Include a second Almost Live Not Real Music Festival episode.
- Give the final episode a more grandiose scale to befit the ending of the show.
