Believe it or not, I have a blown-up picture of Gary Rathbun that hangs in my room. I'm just getting over a squish (platonic crush) on him. I got his address and wrote him a letter, although he didn't reply. Sad I also looked up his house on Google Earth and saved a million different pictures of it. It has 3 1/2 bathrooms and 2 stories, in case you were wondering.

Suspect I'm sorry, but that's pretty much crossing the line between admirer and stalker. He probably didn't reply to you because you creeped him out.

I wonder if any of his puppets are visible through the windows... Very Happy
But by all means, feel free to share your findings and photos here.  I'm actually quite curious.  I'd also love to see some shots of your room with that giant mugshot on the wall.  Razz

Yes, but he doesn't know about the other stuff. All he knows is that I wrote him a letter.  So if you're reading this, Gary, my love- uh, I mean, Mr. Rathbun, I guess you know now, hehe!

I'm actually surprised that the real Mr. Ratburn is still alive, considering the fact that Marc Brown is nearly 70.  That would most likely put Gary Rathburn somewhere in his 90's.

Actually, according to my research, Gary will be 80 on the 17th, having been born in 1934. He taught Marc in his first year as a teacher when he was 22. There is only about twelve years difference between them. And by the way, Gary ironically has a brother named Arthur.  Smile Oh, and X= love. You know, because Gary was an algebra teacher. And I LOVE him. I must track him down and get him to be my best friend!

Much younger than I'd have expected - hopefully he'll have at least one more decade before shuffling off to the Big Blackboard in the Sky.  Do keep us updated on your ongoing quest to meet him and give him the solution to f(x)=y when x=love.  I love you

Will do. This is the most intense squish I've ever had. I bet I'm driving him crazy. (If you're reading this, Gary, I LOVE YOU!!!)

Perhaps he'd appreciate drawings of Mr. Ratburn torturing his class with Algebra.  What a Face

Wow I'm surprised to see someone who actually looked up this sort of stuff on the real Mr. Ratburn. You should have sent him some cake with your letter.

I should have. Or some alphabet soup. You know, the kind with both letters and numbers. It's edible algebra!
