A Clockwork Customer

Post by CMSAB11 on Sun Jul 19, 2015 3:26 am

As one of the sole viewers of this ingeniously orchestrated parody, I can honestly say that the lack of attention is due to the fact that people don't "get" it or understand its purpose. I'll admit, it does take some critical thinking and reading into. That's because Bunnehpie is so smart.  albino

Obviously, you would have an easier time understanding A Clockwork Customer and why the characters are in their respective roles if you have seen the original film. However, when I watched the parody, I had no prior knowledge of the story. Incredibly, I found that it was composed in such a way that allowed newcomers to have a grasp of the original plot with a unique Arthur spin that allowed it to deviate just enough to be quite original on its own. That's probably what impressed me the most about it.

Molly (Alex)
Ah, Molly. In Arthur, she is, by her very nature, a rebel. Taken in conjunction with this, some of us believe she has a darker side. This disturbed side that she has is played up to ten in A Clockwork Customer; it is the number one reason why she works SO WELL as Alex. Her sadism is exhibited from the start. Less than five minutes into the film, we have a montage of torture and homicide perpetrated by the Tough Customers (Droogs) and their ringleader, yours truly--blood splatters galore. Particularly gruesome is the joyride down the street (a clip featured here) in which there is an amusing encounter with the Crazy Bus, and Kate is, sadly, run over... drunken.
We see how isolated Molly is from her family in this parody, too. That's true to the cartoon--Molly is often seen as alone and independent from her family.
Molly's betrayal of her fellow TCs is very in-character, too. She does deviate from them in the show--she doesn't easily go along with their decisions unless she knows that she'll benefit from them. It's easy to see her eventually ditching the TCs for becoming too "mellow" for her tastes. Alex is basically the same way with the Droogs. Even after his old trio has been reformed, he's still drawn to the same way of living and life of crime as before. Even if the thought of "normalizing" himself pops in his head, it's not something he would entertain for fear of more fucked-up people like him entering the world.  No
As more of a side-note, I personally think it's interesting how gender-fluid Molly is depicted to be (you'll understand from past convos we've had, Lotta Wink). I mean, I don't think it was intentional, but (obviously being Alex) she has male anatomy--perhaps (IN A VERY GENERAL WAY because I don't mean to stereotype ;_; ) being metaphorical for the way she likes to dominate those around her. The male persona echos her personality for that reason. Plus, the pink bows in her hair, as remnants of her past femininity. Very Happy
I also think it's pretty typical of Molly to want a "get-out-of-jail-free card" by agreeing to take part in the experiment, like Alex does. Even if it has a permanent effect on her mental state...who the fuck cares? Razz

The Tough Customers (Droogs)
The Tough Customers are like the Droogs in many obvious ways. The bullying, for one, taken to an extreme in this parody. Also less noticeable on the surface is the way in which each of the other Droogs mirror their respective characters; Binky is Dim, Rattles is Georgie, and Slink is Pete. Understanding just how well they fit the roles makes the parody that much more brilliant--look it up!

References/Gags
It would probably take me all night (probably a few days to be exact) to list every single one of the references Lotta added into this parody. However, I do see and understand all of them. Wink
No wonder it took an entire three months nonstop.
These are just some of the highlights or blatant ones I've noticed upon rewatching the film:
-Mr. Morris as the homeless drunk on the street, with a couple of Big Boss bars and Dark Bunny energy drinks to symbolize his drug addictions.
-Brain/Lydia as the upper-class couple (F. Alexander [author of A Clockwork Orange] and his wife) that the Droogs attack. It makes sense, since they'd probably be that one snooty couple everyone knows who had that shit coming to them. Laughing
-Francine's masculinity. You see references to it multiple times throughout the movie--most notably, in the "Molligula" scene, where she--or he--plays Proculus.
-Mr. Rogers watching Molly pee--LOL.
-JUST in Molly's room: James is tied up in the far left corner while Fernsnake rests peacefully at Molly's side. There is also an Arthur: It's Only Rock n' Roll poster and a pin-up of the superhero Molly, Muffy and Francine made in The Agent of Change. Wow.
-Pepper Ann, Sue Ellen, Jenna, and Charlotte Bickles as Bitzi's cats...roflmfao.
-Bitzi's role as Cat Woman. Hilarity. Creepy, socially-awkward, perverted...and the Buster dick statue. Razz
-I really like all the references to the VAs--Molly's and Fern's really stand out in my mind.
-"Take one more step, and your entering a world of pain." - Molly 9:6
-MOLLIGULA. It deserves a second mention because it's favorite scene. Too perfect, because Molly makes a great Caligula. Very Happy
-I notice Mr. Haney (the priest) rests a yellow sucker on Molly's book during the "reformation" scene--long-time fans of the show know how Haney likes his suckers. Razz
-The "Molly Gets Cured" montage is pretty amusing...and trippy...and crazy. One thing's for sure, that's one hell of a treatment. The characters fit the roles very well, too. Razz
-Something I really liked was the positioning of scenes from the show into the movie. It was perfect how they were placed! The closing scene from The Last Tough Customer worked so well for Molly's apology. So did the closing scene to The Agent of Change to finish off the movie. Seems like it was just a movie in a movie...or was it? The ending makes you wonder. Very Happy

Conclusion
A Clockwork Customer is a truly ingenious parody. While still retaining many elements of the film it spoofs, it is an incredible work of fan art with its many references to Arthur. The metaphors and symbolism I personally have caught onto are so numerous and well-positioned in the parody, not to mention how well the characters fit into their respective roles. I could go on and on about how high-quality it is--but seriously, you need to see it for yourself to understand most of the things I've mentioned. My Bunnehpie is a creative genius, and this is one huge example of his creativity at work. I feel sorry for those who have not yet seen this--you are truly missing out.

A Clockwork CUSTOMER. It's Lotta's fan-parody that took him three months, nonstop, to make. Unfortunately, not many people have watched the entire film...and it's awful that it hasn't gotten more attention. Sad
So, that's probably why you're confused. My post was created to give it the appreciation and analysis it deserved. Lotta went through a lot of trouble getting it up on YouTube and had to upload clips instead. I'm just glad that at least some of it is viewable to the public. Sad

Aw shucks, Hunny Bunny.  I love you  You know it really means a lot, especially with how much work it all took.  I'm just glad that some folks have managed to give it a view and agree with how damn similar so many of the character roles really are.

Now that MC Warner has finally agreed to allow several portions of it on Youtube without the same trouble they gave me initially*, I might be able to upload a more abbreviated version that still contains a majority of the key scenes.

Of course, I have to credit our vacationing co-founder, Rummy, with the initial inspiration and concept of reworking/parodying almost an entire popular film with Arthur characters.  Specifically, this:

*For anyone unfamiliar, I actually did consult an attorney who reviewed the previous situation and maintained that the project was, most likely, a perfectly legal Fair Use exception to copyright law - whether the copyright holder agreed or not.
