The title is just a pun and is not a reference to real-life matters!

There are reptile characters also, but are in non speaking back ground characters. (Sleep No More)

I don't pay attention, so that's interesting. But the same thing applies here.

All My Chickens:

Post by In_Correct on Mon Sep 03, 2018 8:45 pm

It is probably be cause Birds and Reptiles and Amphibians are supposed to lay eggs, and The Arthur Show has regularly appearing infant characters as well as episodes where families deal with child birth in a human manner. Humans are mammals. It would be interesting to see characters hatch from eggs! (and I am not talking about the title card where they are hatching from the same egg.)

B.T.W., another bird appearance is in the soap opera "All My Chickens". (Arthur's TV Free Week)

Haha... It would be really interesting if the writers had that in mind. Rather than choose whether to put into question their reproductive differences, they decide to shun them. But they still exist in the show, don't they?

Another appearance in film for the birds? They seem to always be portrayed in a detached, exotic manner while being excluded from society. Maybe Elwood City isn't the utopian city people think it is and non-mammals are the oppressed minority, pushed by gentrification or otherwise, into being our cohabitants of The Slums. Very Happy

Kinda:

Post by In_Correct on Tue Sep 04, 2018 5:12 am

If they are oppressed, wouldn't they be Tough Customers?

Here are more appearances, but most of them appear as real birds: Legal Eagle (a mutant), The Love Ducks, Ducks in a fountain from Finders, Key - Pers, Confuse The Goose, and Quackers. (Each time they are ordinary birds.)

But I would not consider these as Token Characters. Token Characters would be more like regular appearing characters (approximately 3 characters at the most) almost all ways with the worst lines and the fewest scenes. So they aren't even that.

I don't think that tough customer=poor, necessarily. They all seem to be pretty well off. Also to support my stupid scenario, I wouldn't be surprised if certain people in Elwood would be prejudiced against ducks or any other minority group.

You're right. One example of a meaningless (but with good intentions) token character would be Carl.

the ducks are an oppressed minority in elwood city, they work shitty jobs and are stepped on by the more superior species like bunnies, aardvarks, cats, etc....

People like Muffy are not really superior to anyone.

The giant hamster wheel, the plantation-like estate...it's all adding up to a very negative integer, Muffy.

Oh my goodness this thread is so going in funny ways. And, I thought, ICE forced them back to the pond. Boy was I wrong.

The average auto dealer GM earns about $130,000 a year, which is barely in the top 10 percent threshold, and their dealership seems to be pretty small and bare of cars.

Yet they live like one-percenters despite only being first-generation upstarts.  scratch

This is something else I've often been baffled by regarding the Crosswire fortune.  Their lifestyle is the sort of thing that would require millions (per year) to sustain.  Ed would have to be the owner of multiple high-traffic dealerships to conceivably pull that much in.  Millicent doesn't appear to work at all, so we can probably just factor her out.

There's no indication that the Crosswires inherited wealth either, given that the business was more or less built from the ground-up by Ed.  Let say Millicent inherited the family fortune from her side...but then why would Ed even bother working at all at this point? Some would say that their wealth is a deliberate exaggeration for purposes of easier storytelling and dichotomy, but I insist in taking everything presented to us at face value and attempting to make sense out of it...despite what darkness may follow.

So yeah, things really aren't adding up here.

Ed seems to be involved in franchises as mentioned in "Sue Ellen Chickens Out". You can make a killing if you own enough of them.

Other than that, the Crosswires strike me as an upper-middle-class family who lives WAY beyond their means. Perhaps their mansion was originally owned by Mary Alice Miller from "Fountain Abbey" and it was eventually inherited by Ed or Millicent, whomever was related to Miller.
