Moms brought this up in another thread, and felt it was deserving of its own poll.

So, ARTHUR is known for having a large cast of characters, and while we all know and love Arthur the his family, his friends, and their families, Elwood City is also known for its vast populace as well. Over the years, particularly in more recent years, ARTHUR has shined its light on the numerous secondary, recurring, and minor characters, with some even becoming the focus of their own episodes, and just like Arthur and his pals, these characters are also unique and memorable in their own way. Basically, this poll is to vote for your favorite recurring character from Elwood City, and this thread is also for you to discuss them all as well. Apparently there's a limit on the number of poll options, so I kind of kept it limited to exclude parents and family members.

If I had to narrow the choice down to one, I'd go with the one who seems to be rising in popularity, not just among the Slums, but among the fandom in general: Marina. We've all gushed about how cute as a button she is, but she's also a really well-written character, in that she comes off as a good role model for both girls (which has been the complaint for years that there's not a lot of relatable characters for girls) and disabled people: she doesn't really fit into any typical girly stereotypes, she's both bookwormish yet athletic too, and she doesn't let her disability get in her way nor does she like to be fussed over about it.

Excellent - and very comprehensive!

Since I do suppose Molly qualifies as a secondary, I had to give her my vote since she's pretty much my favorite overall character at this point.  But if I could choose a runner-up, it would definitely be Marina, for all of those reasons plus those mentioned in the "Dating" thread: http://theslumsofelwood.forumotion.com/t247-which-arthur-character-would-you-date#3953

Yes, you can all laugh and throw tomatoes at me for also listing Jenna as a top candidate.  Razz

*Laughs and throws tomatoes at Moms*

But seriously... yeah, Jenna really doesn't get a whole lot of love from the fandom, does she? I almost feel sorry for her to the extent that most of her hate stems from her "ugliness." That seems kind of harsh.

Admittedly, poor cooking skills aside, Thora is the kind of grandmother I wish I had; she shows an interest in her grandkids' lives, she's full of wisdom, and despite her advanced age, she's pretty with the times, as Arthur once said, "She knows everything a grandmother should know."

ARTHUR: And then, just as Bionic Bunny escapes the evil Dr. Warthog...
DAVID: Whoa! Who is Dr. Warthog?
THORA: He's part of the Rat Gang, David, get with the program! Go ahead, Arthur.

"Grandma Thora Appreciation Day" is an underrated, but enjoyable episode.

I'm really starting to appreciate Bailey as a character more and more. He really subverts the traditional portrayal of the miserable, underappreciated, overworked butler whose only interest is trying to get his hands on the family's fortune; on the contrary, despite being a deadpan character, Bailey speaks very favorably of the Crosswire family, and they do seem to genuinely appreciate him - even Muffy, deep down; I liked the moment they shared with each other in "Caught in the Crosswires," where they decide to ignore J3's future suggestions and just be themselves. Just in general, Bailey seems to always have Muffy's best interest at heart.

Bailey seems to have decent quarters for himself as well: butlers seem to typically live in an attic, a basement, or some kind of glorified walk-in closet, but Bailey's got a very decent bedroom.

Getting back to how deadpan he is, it makes him a great deadpan snarker too, such as seeing how the basement was arranged to archive all of Muffy's achievements, belongings, and other things year-by-year: "It took me most of my thirties."

That's why I made Bailey, Ed Crosswire and J-Cube as playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS! So the former two can beat up J-Cube for filming them too much!
