Happy 815th Birthday Aldi!

Post by A Lotta Moms on Thu Jan 01, 2015 1:25 am

Here's to wishing a very happy birthday to Sir Aldi!  I'm sure the whole cake-and-ice-cream routine's getting pretty old after having gone through it 814 times over, but all the same...

cheers cheers

Thou little young'un. I turn 866 this spring! Razz

By the way...
I've had my age displayed on my ECC profile since 2012. Cool

And here's an archived page from 2013 to prove I'm not just making it up now.

Oh @$%#&!!!! My computer crashed a few weeks ago and I've been having some trouble in my personal life lately, so sorry I failed to accept my birthday wishes. But thanks! And I celebrate my birthday by traveling instead of eating sweets. I'm 815, and I still haven't seen the entire world! @#%%!

I will say this about Kroger: they are inconsistent in their merchandise. It seems like whenever I get to liking a certain product, then after a while, they stop carrying them: there were certain microwave meals they (that were their own brand) that they eventually did away with.

That, and there's a certain flavor of Sun Chips they won't carry that I have to go to other stores for (French onion).

However, Kroger is the only store that seems to Calypso, and that's pretty much taken Apple Snapple's place in my heart after Snapple changed the flavor back in 2009, thus drawing me to the edge of insanity.

It reminds me of the infamous (in my mind, at least) Walgreen's-brand soap scandal.  Up until about a year ago, Walgreen's had just about the damn finest, cheapest brand of soap in the history of all things soap.  I'd been a huge fan of it for years.  Suddenly, they stopped carrying it.  Why?  Because name-brand soap companies paid them to promote their inferior, obnoxiously over-scented brands instead.

Regarding Kroger, I used to view them as a bit of an evil empire after they consumed Farmer Jack and a few other regional chains...but lately, I've come to rather appreciate them.  At least, my corner Kroger.  Its layout, presentation, and food selection is really top-rate.  Prices aren't bad, and every time I visit, it makes me feel like Maria in a sugar pantry. Cool

Well then, since you're such a connoisseur of soaps, maybe you can reccommend something for me...

See, even though I'm a dude, I have very sensitive skin, thanks to my Celtic heritage, so I have to use soaps for sensitive skin, but that's a bit of a problem... sure, it gets me clean, but the problem is, sensitive soap is pretty much froufrou stuff, and as such, it doesn't really tackle "man problems" (like B.O. for example). I usually use Caress, because it's what my family's used ever since I was a tot (well, except for my dad, he used Dial). You any idea of anything I could use that wouldn't irritate my skin, but can tackle my man-sized odor and such? I've tried body washes as an alternative, but that really didn't do much for me.

Absolutely, glad to share whatever soapy wisdom I've acquired over the years.  Wink   I also have somewhat sensitive skin, and have found that more heavily-scented soaps and washes actually wind up making one smell less appealing after a while.  I suspect it has something to do with the fragrance oil wearing off or transforming over time.

Anyway, since the fabled Walgreens brand disappeared, I've found that Ivory Pure is the best alternative.  It's effective and gentle, but not pore-clogging like some other "softer" brands (i.e. Dove).  Reasonably inexpensive, too.

It's been pretty effective in terms of combating sweat and the like.  I run daily as part of my workout routine, so I'm fairly familiar with sweat-inducing activity.  I've found that Ivory Pure + a good deodorant pretty much does the trick.

Thanks, I'll give a try.

Yeah, as far as deodorants go, I switched to gels years ago, because honestly, that roll-on/rub-on stuff did little to nothing for me, lol.

Always glad to spread the bubbles!  They just add to the ongoing birthday festivity. jocolor

I've always found gels to be much more effective.  Just for the heck of it, I also use them on my feet to eliminate any possibility of sock odor.  I suppose it's a little eccentric of me, but the extra luck I'd otherwise gain just isn't worth it.

Actually, you're not alone, and you're not eccentric about it at all, some people out there actually do have a clinical foot odor problem - my niece is one of them; they're always putting like special air fresheners in her shoes, or really scrubbing her feet with special medicated washes. Then again, like Francine, she's a very athletic and active kid, so that may or may not have something to do with it.

Another simple solution is to just throw one's sneakers through the wash every so often like any other article of clothing.  After running through enough mud and water over time, things do tend to get pretty musty down there.
