The allegory we all missed

Post by 磁計算機騎士 on Thu May 14, 2015 12:10 am

Looking back, there is a good reason why they named the show Arthur instead of Arthur and Friends, as it translates in some international dubs.

The show itself has behaved like a child growing up.

Each season corresponds to a year of life (please take this as a rough comparison):
1-4: the early years, everything was funny and/or cool = infant-hood through preschool
5: Joe Fallon is gone = kindergarten
6: Animation style changes, new Arthur voice = 1st grade (begins Elementary school)
7: 100th episode, April 9th brings permanent changes = 2nd grade (which is when the flashback episodes from season 1 take place)
8: The pilot episode for Postcards from Buster airs = 3rd grade is when the main show takes place
9: more episodes with the Tough Customers (4th graders) than any season before = 4th grade
10: (not quite sure what, besides the Read parents' anniversary...)
11-13: The animation starts looking different = 6th-8th grade
14-15: learning independence and defying the norm ("The Wheel Deal", "The Agent of Change", "Arthur Unravels", etc.)  = 9th-10th grade
16-17: changes in personality (Rattles, Molly, Arthur, etc) and even more change in physical appearance (9 story) = 11th-12th grade
18-present: physical appearance has finished changing, but has moved past the awkward stage; now capable of very deep thoughts and faces the real world = Adult

Now that our baby boy has finally reached adulthood, let's not give up on him. He is still capable of great things.

Do you realize that Arthur would be 27 now realistically since the TV show universe came out in 1996 (and that's also when 90's stuff in real life was also happening when the show.) Like the Tough Customers and Cousin Mo are dressed up as Grunge bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, etc.

Arthur's gone from a Charlie Brown knockoff to a likable but nerdy bookworm to an unlikable prat who does nothing but caterwaul. He's never aged physically, nor mentally - very few, if any, of the lessons learned in years past seem to have stuck with him. drunken

I am referring to Arthur the TV series, not Arthur Read the character.
